Things got a little dramatic in the studio this week. I had two fabulous models who showed up wearing the same bloom and same wires, and completely different outfits.
One was giving quiet elegance. The other walked in and took over the entire room before she even sat down.
Come meet them both and tell me, who wore it better?

When Less Is Everything
She stopped at perfect and the room felt it immediately.
Meet Contestant One. She walked in wearing the most gorgeous copper dress, earthy, warm, textured like she had a story to tell. And she kept it simple, which honestly took more confidence than anything else in the room. One pink gerbera pinned on like the chicest brooch you've ever seen.
Golden wire wrapped around her just so, effortless and perfect. A long green leaf swept down like a scarf she grabbed on her way out the door.
She didn't overthink it. She didn't need to. In Sogetsu, knowing when to stop is its own kind of genius. She stopped at perfect and the room felt it immediately.
Beyond the Vase
She clearly did not come here to be contained.
Meet Contestant Two. All matte black, sleek, tall, and a little intimidating. Same pink gerbera, same golden wire as Contestant One but girl, she was NOT keeping that wire close. It went everywhere. Down, around, across the floor, back up.
She clearly did not come here to be contained and she wanted everyone to know it.
That little clear wire dancing above her head? That's her finishing touch. Barely there and absolutely everything. And the gerbera just sat right in the middle of all of it looking perfectly calm, because she knew from the start that she was the reason everyone showed up.
Quick Ikebana Tip
Wire. Did you know? The secret weapon in Ikebana? Wire. Sogetsu was the first school to welcome non-traditional materials such as wire, metal, plastic, or any nontraditional elements into Ikebana. Wire adds movement, drama, and structure without a single petal. Wrap it close and it whispers. Let it loose and it shouts. Same wire. Your choice.
