This week's newsletter is basically a love letter to yellow flowers. The weather has been giving "late winter," but my heart has been giving "Spring, please."
So, I leaned into that energy and created two arrangements that feel bright, hopeful, and full of gentle movement. I hope they bring as much warmth to your day as they brought to mine.
Architectural Spring
Lines that zig, blooms that soften—a little dance between geometry and joy.
This one started on a chilly morning when I just needed a burst of "Spring, please hurry." You know those days when the light is soft, the air is cold, and your mood is somewhere in between? That was me.
I created few zig-zag lines first and placed them in, letting them decide the structure. They felt crisp and energetic, almost like the arrangement was stretching awake.
Then I added the yellow blooms, and honestly, they changed everything. The moment I tucked them in, the whole piece brightened. They were like tiny bits of sunshine showing up early, refusing to wait for warmer weather.
A few round green accents slipped in afterward, grounding everything with a soft little hug.
And suddenly, it felt hopeful.
To me, Architectural Spring is a sweet reminder that even when the day feels a bit cold or sharp, a little color and a playful line can shift your whole mood. It's like Spring whispering, "I'm almost here."
Brighter Mood
This little arrangement began on a morning when everything felt undecided—the sky, my energy, even my cup of coffee.
So, I walked into the studio and thought, If Spring won't show up yet, I'll just invite it in myself.
The yellow daylilies were the perfect guests. Warm, glowing, full of early-spring optimism. One stem curved forward all on its own, like it was stretching toward the season we're all waiting for. So of course, I let that natural arc lead the entire design.
Once Shin (that leading line) was in place, the rest of the blooms followed with such ease—a soft lean here, a gentle lift there, gathering into a little bowl of sunshine.
I didn't overthink a thing. I just let the flowers do what Spring flowers naturally do: brighten the room, lighten the mood, and make me breathe a little easier.
To me, Brighter Mood is proof that spring doesn't always arrive on the calendar. Sometimes it begins with a handful of yellow blooms and the choice to bring a little warmth into your day.
Quick Ikebana Tip
Invite Spring In: When Spring feels far away, invite it in. A delicate branch, a hint of yellow blooms, a breath of green in a light container. Sometimes the simplest arrangement is enough to lift the whole room and your spirit.
